SCHOOL GAMES GOLD AWARD
We have recently been awarded the School Games Gold Award!
The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of sport across the school and also to provide opportunities for children to take part in competitive sport both within school but also through inter school competitions and events.
This is a fantastic achievement for our school and we are very proud of our children. My thanks to Mr Leatham, Mrs Young and our staff team for their hard work and dedication to the sporting life of our school. We have also been informed this week that
Lancashire Healthy Schools Standard
We have achieved the Lancashire Healthy Schools Standard. This is linked to our on going development of the health and well being programmes we are working on in school and our work towards the national Quality Standards. Thank you to Mr Leatham and Mrs Smith for leading this within our school.
Our Christian Values
We believe that every child is a gift from God, and as such brings with them unique talents and characteristics which are to be nurtured and celebrated. Within our educational family each action made and decision taken is underpinned with Christian values, and this is recognised as a strong characteristic of our school. We feel a deep responsibility to nurture core values that can be shared and expressed by all regardless of faith or belief. As a school and community we seek to explore the meanings of core values and their significance in Christianity and other religions.
The gifts of love, peace, respect, faith, loyalty, courage, hope, friendship, determination, forgiveness, trust and compassion are the values we want our children to leave with. While these gifts are inclusive of human values we try to anchor them into the Christian faith by relating them to the bible through stories and readings.
Our St Hilda’s Citizen’s Group have been working hard to establish a link through Action Aid with a family in Zambia. Money raised from our non uniform day and hat parade in December has been used to “sponsor” Angela. Angela is from a Christian family who live in Nakonde in Zambia. She is 8 years old. Her family are very poor and their staple diet is Nshima - a thick maize porridge. They have no clean, safe drinking water and the family cannot afford to send Angela to school.
